Transforming Juvenile Court Advocacy.

Rooted in Justice. Powered by Purpose.

The Nebraska Children’s Justice and Legal Advocacy Center (NCJC) at the University of Nebraska College of Law is transforming how attorneys are trained and supported to serve children and families in juvenile court—especially in rural areas, where geographic barriers, limited resources, and attorney shortages continue to affect access to high-quality legal representation.

NCJC offers a continuum of education, mentorship, and support for both law students and practicing attorneys. Our programs include the Children’s Justice Clinic, the Children’s Justice Attorney Education Fellowship, a statewide CORE training series for new juvenile court attorneys, and advanced training opportunities for alumni Fellows. Together, these initiatives provide meaningful, hands-on learning for attorneys at every stage of their careers.

Our model integrates three core components: intensive training, expert consultation, and reflective practice. These elements strengthen both legal knowledge and advocacy skills while also supporting attorneys in managing the emotional demands of juvenile court practice. Each year, we help more attorneys build long-term, sustainable careers in this critical field.

Alongside our education programs, NCJC is developing a research and evaluation infrastructure to improve practice, shape policy, and support national replication. As the only legal training center of its kind focused on juvenile court advocacy in rural areas, NCJC offers a scalable, evidence-informed model for addressing persistent gaps in access to justice.

"Law students and attorneys working in juvenile court have a tremendous impact on the outcomes for the children and families they serve. Our Center's unique approach supports attorneys to be high quality advocates in their respective roles."
